Overview

The Personal Trainer reports directly to the Supervisor, Sport & Fitness. This position is responsible for representing the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) by displaying a professional and high energy image while meeting the fitness needs of the community. This position plays a critical role as one of our front line staff members and must display an exemplary level of customer services through the fitness services offered by the RRC.

 

Posting Type: 1 Part-Time Position Available 

Pay Rate: $47.89/hour ($1/hour less while on probation)

Anticipated Start Date: September 2017

The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, is a not-for-profit company, operating recreational facilities in the Wood Buffalo Region. The flag ship complex, MacDonald Island Park is Canada's largest community recreational, leisure, and social centre. Home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club and Shell Place, MacDonald Island Park works under the umbrella of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individuals and groups to develop personalized health and fitness plans
  • Provide information and advice on stress management and nutrition
  • Maintain updated and confidential client records
  • Motivate participants, be punctual, and display a high level of energy
  • Assist members in meeting their fitness goals while providing an exemplary level of customer service
  • Assist guests with the use of fitness equipment, provide instruction to ensure correct and safe practices, and keep abreast of developments related to fitness equipment and program practices.
  • Ensure the safety of staff members and fitness users by interpreting and enforcing facility rules and regulations
  • Participate in scheduled training sessions and orientations
  • Ensure member needs are met by providing an exemplary level of customer service
  • Additional projects as assigned by the Supervisor, Sport & Fitness.

Qualifications

Certifications:

  • Certified Personal Trainer certification (ie. CSEP-CPT, CSEP-CEP or other Canadian Personal Trainer Certification)
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED certificate or equivalent (including CPR C)

 Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise  Physiology, Movement Science or other related field

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience demonstrating a high level of maturity, responsibility, customer service, and leadership skills
  • Knowledge  in Health & Wellness services and physical fitness
  • Knowledge of the operation of weight training and cardiovascular equipment
  • Participate in department meetings, provide updates, and liaise with department staff
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and oral skills
  • Possess strong organizational  and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work with Word, Excel, and Outlook, and PowerPoint

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Background in Nutrition
  • Group Fitness Certifications
  • Specialized training certifications (ie. Crossfit, Kettleball, TRX, Pre/Post Natal)
  • Customer service experience or training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position requires a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend work.
  • This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
  • The candidate must be physically fit and behave as a role model for a fit and healthy person
  • This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
