  • Overview

    The Advanced Dance Instructor reports to the Manager, Arts & Culture.  This position is responsible for representing the MacDonald Island Dance Academy and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. We are looking for a professional and experienced dance instructor, able to teach several disciplines at both the recreational and competitive level. The Advanced Dance Instructor will be respectful of program participants and will be responsible for making sure the activities and areas remain clean, safe, and well maintained.  This position plays a critical role and must display an exemplary level of customer service.

     

    Position Type: 1 Full time Position Available (part time will be considered)- Union 

    Anticipated Start Date: August 20, 2018

    Posting Period: Open until Filled

    Rate of Pay: $39.80 /hour ($1 less during probationary period)

    Cost of living allowance: $13,200/year

    The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, is a not-for-profit company, operating recreational facilities in the Wood Buffalo Region. The flag ship complex, MacDonald Island Park is Canada's largest community recreational, leisure, and social centre. Home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club and Shell Place, MacDonald Island Park works under the umbrella of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. 

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Instruction of several dance styles including Ballet, Jazz, and Lyrical. Competency in other dance disciplines such as Acrobatic Arts, Tap and/or Hip Hop is an asset.
    • Collaboration with other dance instructors, assisting with the development of the dance curriculum, creation and execution of Recitals and Special Events
    • Advance experience in choreography and instruction to all ages (2 years old to adult) and all ability levels (beginner to advanced/competitive)
    • Experienced classroom management
    • Ability to mentor class Teacher’s Assistance
    • Select and provide appropriate music for dance programs and choreograph for dance recitals.
    • Coordinate costumes for final recital
    • Maintain a safe and organized studio space
    • Make recommendations to further develop programming
    • Work harmoniously with others in accordance with the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo and MacDonald Island Dance Academy’s Policies and Procedures
    • Promote services/ programs/ events that would provide an additional benefit to the students
    • Ensure the safety of the students by interpreting and enforcing facility rules and regulations
    • Participate in all scheduled training and professional development deemed necessary by the RRC
    • Ability to work with Word and Outlook
    • Provide general administrative support
    • Complete additional projects as assigned by the Manager, Arts & Culture.

     

    Qualifications

                   

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Degree or Diploma in Post -Secondary Dance Program and/or Accredited Dance Teaching Certification (CSC-CICB, RAD, SRB, CDTA, ISTD, ADAPT, etc.)

     

    CERTIFICATIONS

    Current First Aid/AED/CPR Certification

     

    ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

     

    • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching dance experience
    • Experience in dance choreography, instruction and performance
    • Experience with children and classroom management
    • Practical teaching experience, must have excellent technical abilities and demonstration
    • Ability to independently create class plans, prepare students for examinations and create chorography for performance
    • Demonstrate excellent verbal, written and oral skills
    • Possess strong organizational skills and ability to work as part of a team
    • Must provide excellent customer service, be dedicated and professional

     
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &WORKING CONDITIONS:

     

    • This position requires flexible schedule including evenings and weekend work
    • This position includes exposure to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment
    • The candidate must be physically fit with excellent dance demonstration ability
    • This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
