    The Senior Camp Leader reports to the Supervisor, Camps. This position will be responsible for assisting in the weekly operations of summer camp programs offered by the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. The Senior Camp Leader will be respectful of camp participants and will be responsible for making sure that the camp activities and areas remain clean, safe, and well maintained. This position plays a critical role as one of our front line staff members and must display an exemplary level of customer service through the services offered by the Sports and Recreation Department.


    Position Type: 6 Seasonal Positions Available

    Anticipated Start Date: June 18, 2018

    Anticipated End Date: on or before September 1, 2018

    Pay Rate: $20.09/hour

    The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, is a not-for-profit company, operating recreational facilities in the Wood Buffalo Region. The flag ship complex, MacDonald Island Park is Canada's largest community recreational, leisure, and social centre. Home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club and Shell Place, MacDonald Island Park works under the umbrella of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. 



    1. Leaders encourage participants in day-to-day activities and create age appropriate activities that promote fun, learning and development
    2. Instruct camp programs in accordance to the Regional Recreation Corporation’s (RRC) policies and procedures.
    3. Motivate staff and campers, be punctual, and display a high level of energy
    4. Provide a safe and secure environment with respect to the RRC’s policies and procedures
    5. Assist with set up, take down and cleaning of leisure programs equipment or supplies
    6. Supervise leisure programs and enforce rules for all guests
    7. Ensure the provision of nutritious snacks and lunches when appropriate
    8. Provide parents and other participants with information regarding staff, scheduling, expectations, services, and planned activities
    9. Provide insight into programming and emergency procedures
    10. Provide exceptional customer service to all guests
    11. Complete additional projects as assigned by the Supervisor, camps or Director of Sport & Rec Services.



    • Current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or equivalent (including CPR C)


    • Some College/University Education
    • Completion of High School
    • Must be 15 years of age or older

    Essential Skills and Experience: 

    • 1-3 months (1 summer) experience as a camp instructor/leader
    • Strong programming and planning capability
    • Excellent understanding of a child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development
    • Possesses strong leadership skills
    • Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to engage in continuous learning and on the job training

    Desirable Skills and Experience:

    • Experience with working with children of different ages and abilities
    • Experience in customer service would be an asset
    • Post Secondary Certifications or Courses or related experience


    • This position requires full time work (35-40 hours per week) and a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend work.
    • This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
    • This position will also require a security clearance
    • This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
