    The Event Labourer supports intermittent special events taking place at any of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo’s (the RRC) facilities or venues including but not limited to concerts, ticketed and large outdoor sporting events. These events may be held at any time throughout the year. The Event Labourer will report to the Supervisor/Manager of the department for which they have been called in to work, including Set-Ups, Grounds and/or other departments requiring their services.   This position will be responsible to perform a variety of service –related duties, depending on the need of each event, in a courteous and professional manner that is conducive to the RRC’s high standards of customer service.  

     

    Position Type: 40 Casual Positions Available

    Pay Rate: $22.74/hour 

    Anticipated Start Date: June 20, 2018

    The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, is a not-for-profit company, operating recreational facilities in the Wood Buffalo Region. The flag ship complex, MacDonald Island Park is Canada's largest community recreational, leisure, and social centre. Home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club and Shell Place, MacDonald Island Park works under the umbrella of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. 

    Responsibilities

    • Loading and unloading merchandise, materials, and/or equipment
    • Applying or removing field cover
    • Supporting event set up and take down including moving/placing lighting, pipe and drape, equipment, stage components, etc
    • Moving and placing tables, chairs and large decorative pieces
    • Indoor and outdoor clean up
    • Assisting guests with directions, event schedules, and answering general questions
    • Other related duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Minimum completion of Grade 10 secondary school

     

    Experience:

    • Must be 18 or older, due to the nature of the work and hours associated
    • Labourer experience is not necessary but will be considered an asset, ideally in a landscaping or retail (ie: furniture) environment
    • Customer service experience is an asset
    • Availability to work evenings and weekends is required
    • Experience working with large volume events and stadiums is an asset

    • Professional – in appearance, attitude and communication at all times
    • Act as an Ambassador - have knowledge of event, the facility, the day’s activities and schedule in order to be an informed representative of the RRC
    • Resourceful – ability to come up with a creative solution to any problem that may arise
    • Team Oriented – work well with others, support others, and when working independently remembering that work done affects others
    • Responsible – fulfills commitments, strong work ethic, step in to help out where needed

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Will involve lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs independently. Any lifting over 50 lbs will require working with a two person team.
    • May involve working in inclement weather, both in and outdoors depending on event. This may require being on your feet for long periods of time.
    • Will require flexibility as shifts may be early morning, days, nights as the schedule is event driven
    • Must dress appropriately and professionally for environment including proper PPE if required.
    • No cell phone or personal device usage permitted while working, as you are here to provide a service for the event. While we want you to enjoy yourselves we also would like your full attention directed toward your task.
    • There is zero tolerance for violence in our work environment. No drugs allowed and we are a non-smoking facility.
