  • Overview

    The Junior Camp Leader reports to the Supervisor, Sport Programs. This position will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of camp programs offered by the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. The Junior Camp Leader will be respectful of program participants and will be responsible for making sure that the activities and areas remain clean, safe, and well maintained. This position will require an individual to exemplify exceptional customer service and will be an important role amongst the Sports and Recreation Department.

     

    Position Type: 10 Seasonal Positions Available

    Anticipated Start Date: June 18, 2018

    Anticipated End Date: On or before August 31st, 2018

    Pay Rate: $16.35 per hour

    The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, is a not-for-profit company, operating recreational facilities in the Wood Buffalo Region. The flag ship complex, MacDonald Island Park is Canada's largest community recreational, leisure, and social centre. Home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club and Shell Place, MacDonald Island Park works under the umbrella of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. 

    Responsibilities

    1. Guide participants in day-to-day age appropriate activities that promote fun, learning and development
    2. Provide a safe and secure environment with respect to the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo’s policies and procedures
    3. Assist with set up, take down and cleaning of camp equipment or supplies
    4. Supervise camp programs and enforce rules for all campers
    5. Ensure the provision of nutritious snacks and lunches when appropriate
    6. Provide parents and other participants with information regarding staff, scheduling, expectations, services, and planned activities
    7. Provide insight into camp programming and emergency procedures
    8. Provide exceptional customer service to all guests
    9. Complete additional projects as assigned by the Supervisor, Sport Programs or Manager, Sport Services.

    Qualifications

    Certifications: 

    • Current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or equivalent (including CPR C)

    Education:

    • Minimum completion Grade 10
    • Must be 15 years of age or older

    Essential Skills and Experience: 

    • Previous babysitting or instructor experience
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Possesses strong leadership skills
    • Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
    • Ability to engage in continuous learning and on the job training

    Desirable Skills and Experience:

    • Experience with working with children of different ages and abilities
    • Experience in customer service would be an asset

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • This position requires part time work and a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend work.
    • This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
    • This position will also require a security clearance if applicable.
    • This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
