  • Overview

    The Junior Dance Instructor reports to the Manager, Arts & Culture.  This position is responsible for representing the McDonald Island Dance Academy and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo by displaying a professional and high energy image while meeting the needs of the community. The Advanced Dance Instructor will be respectful of program participants and will be responsible for making sure the activities and areas remain clean, safe, and well maintained.  This position plays a critical role and must display an exemplary level of customer service.


    Position Type: 1 Part-Time Position Available 

    Location: ANZAC Recreational Center 

    Anticipated Start Date: September 15, 2018

    Rate of Pay: $23.44/hour ($1 less during probationary period)

    The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, is a not-for-profit company, operating recreational facilities in the Wood Buffalo Region. The flag ship complex, MacDonald Island Park is Canada's largest community recreational, leisure, and social centre. Home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club and Shell Place, MacDonald Island Park works under the umbrella of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. 




    • Instruction of multi-dance styles including Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical and Hip Hop
    • Develop class plans that reflect the various ages and abilities of students
    • Select and provide appropriate music for dance programs and choreograph for dance recitals.
    • Coordinate costumes for final recital
    • Ability to mentor class Teacher’s Assistance
    • Make recommendations to further develop programming
    • Work harmoniously with others in accordance with the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo and MacDonald Island Dance Academy’s Policies and Procedures
    • Promote services/ programs/ events that would provide an additional benefit to the students
    • Ensure the safety of the students by interpreting and enforcing facility rules and regulations
    • Participate in all scheduled training and professional development deemed necessary by the RRC
    • Complete additional projects as assigned by the Manager, Arts & Culture.



    • Elementary/Intermediate Vocational Examinations (CSC, RAD, SRB, CDTA, ISTD, ADAPT, etc.)
    • Current First Aid/AED/CPR Certification



    • Some experience Dance, including as a Teacher’s Assistance
    • Must have excellent technical dance abilities and demonstration
    • Experience in dance choreography, instruction and performance
    • Experience with children and classroom management
    • Practical teaching experience, must have excellent technical abilities and demonstration
    • Must provide excellent customer service, be dedicated and professional


    • This position requires flexible schedule including evenings and weekend work
    • This position includes exposure to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment
    • The candidate must be physically fit with excellent dance demonstration ability
