    Under the direction of the Ice Facilities Supervisor, the Ice Operator (Level I) maintains the ice surface, maintains and cleans recreation facilities, and operates related equipment in accordance with the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo’s (RRC) polices. 


    Position Type: Casual Position

    Pay Rate: $25.23

    Anticipated Start Date: May 2018

    The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, is a not-for-profit company, operating recreational facilities in the Wood Buffalo Region. The flag ship complex, MacDonald Island Park is Canada's largest community recreational, leisure, and social centre. Home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club and Shell Place, MacDonald Island Park works under the umbrella of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

    • Perform basic maintenance for entire facility including all areas used by public and secure areas. This includes painting, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance, etc.
    • Operate equipment including, but not limited to, ice making, janitorial, and building maintenance
    • Perform janitorial duties including sweeping, mopping, polishing and scrubbing facilities and equipment
    • Enforce all rules and regulations regarding public health and safety;
    • Ensure facilities are locked and secured when not in use.
    • Inspect and repair boards
    • Maintain dressing rooms and other areas within the arena
    • Follow multiple schedules and divide tasks accordingly
    • Respond to emergencies including evacuation alarms, medical emergencies and other safety issues
    • Assist in the preparation of events and programs including setting up and taking down of tables, chairs, nets etc.
    • Create positive experiences for user groups including preparing the ice surface for rentals in a timely fashion, ensuring dressing rooms are assigned accordingly, answering inquiries about the facility, handling complaints and conflict resolution.
    • Be available for user groups by remaining on premises, in public view, and by facility cell phone as the contact person for all concerns regarding the ice facilities.
    • Other duties as required.




    • Completion of high school
    • First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate
    • Arena Operator Level I (Equivalent experience will be considered)


    Essential Skills and Experience:

    • Minimum 6 months related experience in ice making, janitorial and facilities maintenance.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment safely and efficiently.
    • Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labour.
    • Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments.
    • Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public.
    • Good written and oral communication skills.
    • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License.



    • This is a physically strenuous position. The incumbent will be expected to lift, carry and manage equipment and supplies up to 50lbs.
    • This position requires shift work on a rotating schedule. Hours of work will vary.
    • The working environment tends to be busy and noisy.
    • This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
    • This positon requires work outside in hot/cold temperatures
