  • Overview

    The Rural Facility Supervisor will report to the Facility Manager. This position is responsible for the overall supervision and delivery of facility operations which includes supervising operations within the Fitness Centre, Guest Services, Programming, Running Track, Ice Operations and Facility Management offered by the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRCWB). This position plays a pivotal role in the quality of life of the users and ensures the facility’s usage is maximized to its fullest potential.  The Supervisor will work towards creating partnership opportunities within the community, industry and the facility to excel the quality of services available to the rural communities.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure customer service is kept at an exceptional level at all times
    • Supervise daily operations of the facility
    • Liaising with user groups & other key stakeholders
    • Participate and conduct regular staff meetings and update all departments on new programs, classes, clinics, camps and events
    • Work with Programmer to ensure a variety of programming for all ages and various interest groups are planned and implemented
    • Stays abreast of community’s needs for the facility
    • Assist with budget projections and monitor expenditures while achieving maximum levels of service to our guests, user groups, and staff
    • Make recommendations on equipment purchases and identify cost cutting solutions within the facility
    • Responsible for hiring, interviewing, and evaluating staff in accordance with HR policies
    • Evaluate staff by providing on-going verbal feedback and periodic, written job performance evaluations
    • Responsible for the daily supervision, leadership, task assigning, and scheduling of all staff and contractors
    • Identify staff training needs and conduct orientations as necessary
    • Track inventory, supplies, and develop maintenance schedules and service cycles as per equipment guidelines
    • Ensure the safety of staff members and users through regular evaluation of internal systems and procedures that align with the health & safety policies of the RRCWB and Health & Wellness Department
    • Be available for employees that experience work problems providing appropriate coaching, direction and resolution
    • Maintain POS, Events Module, Activities module and report printing in Northstar
    • Ensure employees have appropriate training and other resources to perform their jobs. Respond to and resolve employee relations issues expressed by team members: and maintain high quality work environment so team members are motivated to perform at their highest level
    • In conjunction with the Facility Manager, address disciplinary and/or performance problems according to the company policy. Prepare warnings and communicate effectively with employees on warnings and make effective/appropriate decisions relative to corrective action as required.
    • Assist Facility Manager with daily operations of the Facility to include the development, analyses and implementation of staffing, training, scheduling and payroll submissions
    • Establish work procedures and processes that support company standards, procedures and strategic directives
    • Use appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department or employee concerns
    • Work with the Facility Manager on sales and events for the facility
    • Oversees the operation of the Facility in the absence of the Facility Manager
    • Other duties as assigned by the Facility Manager

    Qualifications

    Education:    

    • Completion of High School and Post-Secondary Diploma
    • Three to five years related customer service experience and training or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Accounting or Administration course would be an asset
    • Leader or Supervisory experience

    Essential Skills and Experience:

    • Possess and maintain a valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification
    • Strong understanding of Fitness
    • Strong understanding of Rural Communities
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
    • Ability to develop and foster partnerships with external clients
    • Ability to participate in department meetings, provide updates, and liaise with programming staff

    • Proven leadership experience and strong supervisory skills

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &WORKING CONDITIONS:

     

    • This position requires regular part time work (25 hours per week) and a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend work.
    • This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and may be exposed to loud noises
    • This position requires sitting or standing at a desk for an extended period of time, working for extended periods on a computer, talking on the telephone, standing, walking, kneeling, stoop/bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, pinching, gripping and repetitive motion.
    • Constant positive interaction with employees, patrons, stakeholders, user groups and the public is required
    • This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary
