    The Golf Operator (Level 1) performs daily routine maintenance tasks that help to provide a superb golf course to our patrons by maintaining all turf surfaces, cart paths, gardens, lawns and walk ways. Under direction of the Superintendent, Golf Maintenance this position is responsible for looking after the greens, tees, fairways and rough, by routine mowing, watering, and fertilising. As well as additional care such as reseeding, topdressing, hollow coring and routine cultural practices. All equipment used is specialized and proper training is given to operator. Other routine duties include raking sand traps, collecting debris, emptying trash, repairing divots, weeding etc.

    • Responsible for his/her own safety as well as the safety of those around them
    • Required to follow all health and safety policies as well as job procedures set out by MacDonald Island Park as part of their job description
    • Operates weedy, fly mower, edger and other small hand held tools
    • Mows greens, tees, fairways and rough in accordance with policies and procedures.
    • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining storage area, wash bay, equipment storage areas, fuel storage, fertilizer shed, and staff locker and lunchroom
    • Reports any mechanical, electrical and hydraulic problems to Associate superintendent
    • Performs cleaning duties to include cleaning break room, locker area, mechanical shop and storage shed
    • Assists crew leader as needed in areas such as drainage or irrigation work, repairs of damaged turf, and replenishment of sand in bunkers
    • Repairs divots on tees and fairways
    • Empties trash containers on course and removes debris from playing area
    • Rakes sand traps, replacing rakes as needed
    • Assists horticulturist as needed by pruning, weeding or watering plants, blowing debris or mowing clubhouse lawn.
    •  Maintains ice-water, cups, etc. for water coolers .Works in and around shop to pressure wash equipment.
    • Build accessories for course and perform necessary building and course furniture maintenance.
    • Assists with golf course clean-up due to inclement weather, golf tournaments, etc.



    • Completion of high school
    • Valid driver’s License


     Essential Skills and Experience:

    • Positive attitude, be self motivated and able to work independently
    • Must be able to follow oral and written directions
    • Must be capable of performing moderately to difficult physical work
    • Ability to safely operate motorized equipment.
    • Experience with gas and diesel engines


    Desirable Skills and Experience:


    • WHMIS, first aid and CPR is preferred
    • Minimum1 year of experience on a golf course or related field





    • This job requires Individuals to be able to perform physically demanding manual labor (i.e. weedy, mowing, raking, etc.), which includes standing, kneeling and sitting on wheel-driven equipment for long periods of time.
    •  Performs physical work, lifts up to 50 pounds. Frequently, and performs activities such as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping throughout shift.
    •  Must have the manual dexterity to grab, grip, hold, pour, tear, cut, sort and reach.
    •  Must be able to work in and tolerate extreme temperatures.
    •  Must be able to work, holidays and weekends.
